Two distinct Young Professional-II streams
ICMR-NINE Bengaluru is recruiting one YP-II for Public Policy and Evidence Translation and one for Scientific Communication and Media. Both are time-bound one-year contracts at the National Institute of NCD Epidemiology, formerly NCDIR. The two streams use research findings differently: policy work develops evidence for decisions, while communication work explains findings to professional and public audiences. Select the stream that matches your qualification and documented experience rather than treating the titles as interchangeable.
Policy-stream essential qualification
The policy post requires a master's/postgraduate qualification with at least 55% in Public Health, Health Policy, Epidemiology, Health Systems, Health Economics or Public Policy, plus three years' relevant post-qualification experience. Desirable backgrounds include NCD epidemiology, cancer control, surveillance, systematic reviews and meta-analysis. Experience in government health programmes, national institutes or policy think tanks is particularly relevant. Show the qualifying degree date before calculating the required work period.
What policy work involves
Duties include developing policy briefs, evidence summaries and policy notes from institute and cancer-registry outputs. The role translates epidemiology and surveillance findings for ministries, health programmes and other agencies, conducts rapid reviews and supports technical reports, white papers, presentations and background papers. Public-health data interpretation, reference-management tools such as Zotero or EndNote, and concise scientific writing are useful. The focus is usable evidence, including uncertainty and interpretation, rather than simply reproducing an abstract.
Communication-stream eligibility and duties
The communication post requires a master's with 55% in Science Communication, Public Health Communication, Mass Communication, Journalism, Digital Media or Public Health and three years' related post-qualification experience. Work includes research highlights, simplified findings, infographics, visual abstracts, newsletters, digital dissemination, short videos and outreach activities. Familiarity with tools such as Canva, Illustrator or PowerPoint design is relevant. The employer also emphasizes editing skill and keeping the science accurate when making it accessible.
Pay, age and appointment
Each position pays ₹42,000 per month all-inclusive. The baseline maximum age is 35, with relaxation under the stated rules and age assessed at interview. Initial engagement is one year; any extension is considered according to work requirements rather than guaranteed. Regular government/organization time-scale employees are excluded under the general conditions. This contractual engagement does not establish entitlement to a permanent ICMR post.
Compulsory email application by 12 November
Send the completed prescribed ICMR application with a recent photograph and self-attested education and experience records in chronological order to [email protected] by 5 pm IST on 12 November 2026. Incomplete applications or missing supporting certificates will not be accepted. Crucially, candidates who have not submitted the prior email application cannot simply arrive with a paper form at the walk-in and expect consideration.
Interview on 13 November
Interview reporting is 9:30 am on 13 November at ICMR-NINE Bengaluru. Applicants wishing to participate online must obtain permission by email in advance, and only those providing the required qualification and experience evidence will be considered for that mode. Selection may use the examination/test/interview/personal-discussion provisions in the notice. No travel or daily allowance is paid. Follow the employer's communication for the actual arrangement rather than assuming video attendance is automatic.
Role-specific application guidance
For policy, choose evidence of a review or brief that changed a technical finding into an actionable recommendation. For communication, explain a publication summary, visual or campaign and how you checked the scientific accuracy. These are suggestions for presenting existing work, not mandatory new portfolio submissions. Keep personal or unpublished research information confidential and describe your individual contribution. Recheck the NINE and ICMR websites for any corrigendum affecting the dates or process.
