Eight scientific vacancies at NIE Chennai
ICMR's scientific recruitment notice covers eight vacancies at the National Institute of Epidemiology, Chennai, through direct recruitment with all-India transfer liability. The intake comprises one Scientist-D Medical, one Scientist-D Non-Medical, two Scientist-C Medical entries including Microbiology, two Scientist-B Medical seats, one Scientist-B Non-Medical Disease Modelling and one Scientist-B Veterinary seat. Rank, stream and reservation must all match; eight vacancies do not mean that any biomedical graduate can apply to any row.
Medical, non-medical and veterinary degrees
Medical routes require MBBS or an equivalent qualification recognized by MCI/NMC. Non-medical routes accept a recognized master's in a biomedical-sciences subject or PharmD recognized by UGC/PCI. The veterinary entry requires BVSc and AH recognized by VCI. Higher qualifications listed as desirable, such as MD/MS, MPH or a biomedical PhD, should not be confused with the minimum degree for a different stream. Check the precise post before registering on the recruitment portal.
Experience by scientific rank
Scientist-C requires four years and Scientist-D eight years of qualifying experience. The notice treats PhD as four years and MD/MS or equivalent as three, subject to its qualification-credit conditions; time spent obtaining the minimum essential qualification is not counted again. MPH/MTech does not receive experience credit under this notice. Relevant biomedical R&D in government, public-sector or private institutions can be admissible. Build a dated calculation rather than simply adding degree durations to employment years.
Research specialisms and evidence
Epidemiology and public-health R&D are relevant to several posts. The Microbiology Scientist-C entry specifically values experience in microbiology, immunology, immunogenetics, molecular biology or next-generation sequencing. The Disease Modelling Scientist-B entry focuses on infectious-disease modelling, while Veterinary Scientist-B emphasizes veterinary epidemiology and public health. Publications, presentations, technical reports and grants are examples of evidence of relevant R&D, not a universal demand that every applicant possess an identical publication count.
Pay and age ceilings
Scientist-B is Level 10, ₹56,100–1,77,500; Scientist-C Level 11, ₹67,700–2,08,700; and Scientist-D Level 12, ₹78,800–2,09,200, with the admissible allowances. Ordinary upper ages are 35, 40 and 45 respectively, before applicable relaxations. The notice includes reservation details, including UR/SC seats for Scientist-B Medical and an EWS veterinary seat. Verify the current reservation certificate and cut-off requirements for the actual vacancy selected.
Application portal and closing time
Complete registration, the online form, supporting uploads and any required payment at the official ICMR recruitment portal by 26 November 2026 at 5:30 pm IST. Online submission is the prescribed initial route. A downloaded form sent unsolicited by post does not substitute for the portal application. The final printout and uploaded records may be requested later, so retain them after successful submission and check that the confirmation is complete.
Fee, documents and employer permission
The application fee is ₹1,500, with exemption for SC, ST, women, PwD and EWS applicants. Pay only through the application link where applicable. Upload relevant educational, specialization and experience evidence. Government, PSU and government-funded research employees must follow the notice's NOC requirement at personal discussion, including the stated release undertaking. Accurate service dates, degree recognition and exemption documents matter more than a portal's provisional acceptance of an entry.
Selection and preparation guidance
Selection may involve a qualifying computer-based MCQ test on research-method understanding, interview or both. ICMR may further shortlist a large eligible pool; meeting the minimum does not guarantee an interview. Application guidance: prepare a concise account of a study design, analytic or laboratory contribution relevant to the selected scientific stream, and support each claimed role with evidence. Recheck the ICMR website for schedules and amendments rather than assuming a fixed exam date or interview pattern not yet announced.
